My name is John Dove, Jr. and I am running for County Council in District 4 to continue my service to country and community.
I am a long-time resident of Anne Arundel County. My time in our community started in Annapolis as a student of the United States Naval Academy in 1983. I graduated from our nation’s finest service academy in 1987, met my future wife Rhonda, and began my post service academy career in our United States Marine Corps.
I have had the honor of serving as a United States Marine Corps Logistics Officer and deployed twice to the Middle East. I participated in the Liberia Embassy evacuations during their civil war and supported the Reserve Marine Air Wing during the Gulf War. In 1993 at the conclusion of my active-duty service in the Marines, Rhonda and I moved back to the Anne Arundel County and started our family. We are the proud parents of Julian, Jordan, Jared, and Riley. Julian and Jordan are proud graduates of Pennsylvania State University and the University of Maryland Baltimore County respectively. Jared is a senior at the United States Air Force
Academy and Riley is a thriving high school sophomore.
Both Rhonda and I are active volunteers in our community. Rhonda is an active member of National Council of Black Women (NCBW), Anne Arundel County Chapter, Arundel Bay Area Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and works in the community to provide food to those in need and to support school aged children. We are members of St. Mark United Methodist Church where I serve as treasurer. I served actively as a “POP” at Waugh Chapel Elementary School. I continue to support mentoring efforts for students at our local schools such as Meade High School. I am currently working with a team of local executives, active/retired military members, and elected officials to help reduce negative encounters with law enforcement officials at Meade High School. Our goal is to serve as positive role models for our children, promote personal responsibility, improve grades, and help our kids find rewarding career paths in the industries that will power our community forward in the future. Helping to advance the wellbeing of others is important to me as I have also served as a mentor for African Americans and women professionals in the medical sales field where I have worked as a sales and business leader for over 27 years.
My experience as a husband, father, Marine, church leader, mentor, and business leader have prepared me for the important work that lies ahead as your next Councilman. I look forward to working for a community where opportunities are available to all. I will work to create solutions. I will work to preserve environmental gems like the Patuxent Refuge and Wildlife Preserve. I will fight to reduce traffic congestion on Route 3 and improve our infrastructure. I will continue to advance the causes of small businesses that helps drive our economy.
I look forward to working with you as your next Councilman.
